Our Story

Where History Meets Design

The Southern Charmer opened its doors on June 29, 1991. From the very beginning, owners Steve Rodgers (designer & owner) and Mark Mullis (owner) brought their vision to life by relocating a charming 1912 home from historic Woodbine to Kingsland, giving it new purpose as their design showroom and antique shop.

This beautiful old house has since become the perfect backdrop for showcasing the evolution of The Southern Charmer—from its early days as an antiques and design shop, affectionately known as "The Pink House," to the full-service interior design studio, furniture store, and home accessories and gift boutique it is today.

Over the years, Steve and Mark’s dedication and creativity have earned them the respect of their clients and the recognition of the community. The Southern Charmer has been honored time and again with “Best of Camden County” awards for both interior design and gift shop categories. Their work has been featured in publications, graced homes from coast to coast, and earned top honors like the 2006 Jacksonville Symphony Showcase People’s Choice Award for their striking contemporary master suite and sleeping porch in the Saxleby Model.

Today, The Southern Charmer remains the go-to source for inspired interior design. They work closely with many of the region’s premier builders, making the design process seamless—from finish selections to final installations—to help clients bring their dream spaces to life.

As trends and styles evolve, The Southern Charmer continues to offer fresh ideas and timeless solutions. Stop in for a visit and explore the latest in home furnishings, accessories, and thoughtful gifts. Steve, Mark, and their team look forward to helping you create a space you’ll love to live in.
